The Committee Inside Your Head Pt. 2
Inside your head, there are many voices, as we discussed last month. Only a few of which are worth listening to, many of them of them are not out to help you at all and some are downright trying to kill you. Yet, for some reason, you insist on ONLY listening to these not worth listening to voices as though they were emanating from the mouths of angels. Can you see how this is problematic at best and a total disaster when not at it's best? You should have learned that about yourself if you had done the suggested exercise I bestowed upon you last time. You were to pay attention to your thoughts for ten minutes a day, do you remember? Are you capable of utilizing your memory for anything other than reminding yourself about all the wrongs the world has committed against you?
Simply put, in order to grow and perhaps to evolve, you must first learn to regulate the many voices in your head.
Remind yourself that your thoughts are just that- they are only thoughts. Have them, hear them but do not assume they are correct just because they are loud.
Allow even the stupidest thought to explain itself and unfold in your mind. Do not repress it, address it. Thank your thoughts for happening and assure them you are listening and that their opinions are important to you. This, of course, cannot always be the case, just do not let your thoughts know that. They must think they are important or there will be trouble.
Right now your head is a mess that needs to be cleaned up and given boundaries. You must transform the inside of your skull from a cesspool to a boardroom. The boardroom of “You Inc.”, where “You” means “Put your name here.” You are the chairthing of You Inc. You and you alone have final say on what you do, which outdated opinions you cling to, which neuroses you nurse into tumors- not your half-formed thoughts and irrational feelings.
The only way to take control of your inner situation is to realize that you are in charge of a bunch of nonsense that cannot be ignored. It also does not have to be indulged. It simply has to be heard.
That’s correct, you are under no obligation to follow through and manifest every single thought you have and emotion you feel. You do not, contrary to popular belief, have to express yourself constantly. You simply have to not be a mess in public. Easier said than done, I am told.
Now that you have become aware of how much of a mess your head is by observing your thoughts, you are ready to become chairthing of your own incorporation. All you need to do is treat your thoughts and feelings as though they were third-party intrusions upon your main thought process. This means that you treat them as other beings, not parts of yourself.
You already do this without being aware of it, it is how your life got so bad in the first place. Do yourself a favor now and do it on purpose for once. It will have a two-fold effect upon your existence. First, it will make you feel as though I am smart and my methods effective and, two, it will improve your life.
Pretend that your thoughts and feelings are stockholders, salesmen, employees, customers, etc that are telling you about their experiences with your company (you) and it’s products (your behavior). Allow them to speak their minds, consider what they say in context of your viewpoint and experience and then decide how much weight to give this thought or feeling.
|Picture It Is That Simple.|
Once you do that, you will be well on your way to being on the path to improving your inner and outer situation!
As a special treat to help you along your way, I have here an audio reading of Lesson One of my FREE! Email course (click the link to sign up for the course). As usual, I am too busy to produce my own audio segments, so I hire underlings to do so for me. Enjoy!
What are you waiting for! Go and prosper, I will see you next month.
His mystic training began at the age of four when he was accidentally left behind in the jungle while on a family vacation. Through a series of unlikely events, he was eventually adopted by the local natives and trained to be a tribal shaman. After many years, Dr. Holmesnow left the familiarity and safety of the jungle to search for his family.
When he did not find them he climbed a mountain and was nearly killed in the process. The local mystic monks from the ancient monastery found him and nursed him back to health. This near-death experience led him to conclude that there was more to life than what he learned from his shaman jungle training. He then began to immerse himself in the ancient mystical practices of the mountain monks. After many years he mastered them and returned to civilization. Forever changed, eternally superior.
Several weeks later he was no longer Hugo Holmesnow, son of incompetent parents. He was and is now The Rev. Dr. Holmesnow, certified life coach and inventor of the “Better Than You Superior Life Coaching System”. This system provides proven methods and techniques that are part of an overall method which contains the strategies that you need to excel, advance, achieve, attain, reach and conquer your dreams, goals, fears, hopes, and desires.
In addition to creating a system of self-improvement, Holmesnow is the author of “What is Wrong With You? An Introduction to What is Wrong With You” and “Conquer Your Dreams: Defeat Your Dreams and Accomplish Your Goals”. Both are available now at Amazon in paperback and e-book formats
